Title: Numerical approximation of variational problems with general and orthotropic growth
Abstract: We consider the numerical approximation of variational problems so called general growth, this includes orthotropic growth, where the integrand depends strongly on the coordinate directions with possibly different growth in each direction and nonautomous problems admitting energy gaps. Under realistic regularity assumptions we derive optimal error estimates. For nonautomous models with energy gaps we present a numerical scheme hat converges to the global minimizer. This talk is based on several joint projects with Lars Diening, Alex Kaltenbach, Christoph Ortner, Abner Salgado and Johannes Storn.
