Title: Shear-thinning fluids in porous media: an inverse problem of estimating the pore size distribution.

Abstract: The talk deals with the applications in hydrogeology, vadose zone hydrology, soil mechanics and groundwater/soil remediation, where pore size characterization is needed. We describe how the pore size distribution can(not) be measured. We provide more details on the capillary bundle framework and the description of porous media flow of shear-thinning fluids. Finally, we formulate the inverse problem that attempts to characterize the effective pore size distribution based on simple permeability experiments with shear-thinning fluids.
